My Brotos

Mismi
Gender: Female
Species: White Winged Parakeet
Hatch Date: 3/27/2014
Band: JAN J 268
Breeder: unknown

Mismi is the parakeet that started it all for me.  Her friendliness, willingness to let me do just about anything to her, and her playful personality really sold me on her, and on the Broto genus as a whole.  She is a simply amazing little bird, learning the wolf whistle within a week of owning her at the tender age of eight weeks old.  She greets each family member as they wake up, and shows no fear of the dog and cat, having pecked at both noses that got too close.  She is fearless!  Her favorite treats are dried papaya and dried pineapple, but corn cut fresh off the cob is a favorite as well!  Mismi is named after the mountain that houses the headwaters of the Amazon River.

Xingu
Gender: Male
Species: White Winged Parakeet
Hatch Date: 3/7/2014
Band: EDL FL 969
Breeder: Linville Aviary

Xingu was a lucky find thanks to the world wide web.  Bred by Earl and Sandee of Linville Aviary in Miami, Florida, Xingu was my first experience purchasing a bird I've never met and also having a bird shipped through the airlines!  He arrived safe and sound thanks to United Airline's Pet Safe program, and though his flight had been delayed multiple times, he was still quite affable when I pulled him out of his carrier.  Xingu is a sweet boy who is fascinated by facial hair, mainly eyelashes and eyebrows.  He's still not completely steady on his stepping up, but he's improving daily.  He loves his Zoopreem pellets, but Mismi is teaching him about seeds and her love of fresh fruits and veggies.  His favorite pellets are the red ones.
